Artist Sri Somesh Ghosh
About the Artist
Artist Somesh Ghosh was born in Siliguri, amidst the foothills of the famous tourist destination Darjeeling. There was an inclination towards painting from a very tender age, as his mother recalls “when he was a little boy aged about three he tried to draw a picture of a bird sitting on the branch of a mango tree just outside the window”. Watching the child trying to draw his parents realized that there was an instinctive connection in between him and painting. As he grew older he got more engrossed and would dedicate long hours at a stretch with his canvas, colours and brushes.
After completing his graduation from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata in Fine Arts he organized various exhibitions in different galleries of Kolkata and Siliguri. He was also awarded by the Holy Guru Dalai Lama for the best painting in one of the competition. The credit for designing the official Logo of Siliguri Municipal Corporation also goes to Artist Somesh Ghosh.
Apart from painting Artist Somesh Ghosh is also an active social worker and associated with the Lions International for social activities. On his personal front he is designated as secretary in the NGO North Bengal Art Academy, which works for the street children and the unemployed youths by providing skill development training for their self-reliance.
The fund raised through his previous two exhibitions were used for various social causes. During this tough phase of Covid – 19 pandemic the artist wants to reach more people through this charitable online solo art exhibition. The funds collected from patrons who would like to own the paintings will be used in serving the needy.
